The 2024 Awards
The United Nations Inter-Agency Task Force on the Prevention and Control of Non-communicable Diseases is pleased to share a call for nominations for the 2024 Task Force Awards.
These Awards will recognize achievements on multisectoral action in the prevention and control of NCDs, mental health and the wider NCD-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) during 2023.
Last year, the Task Force joined forces with the International Telecommunication Union and the WHO Department of Digital Health to emphasis the importance of digital technologies on the NCD and mental health agenda. In 2022 the Task Force joined forces with the WHO Special Programme on Primary Health Care to highlight the importance of NCDs and mental health within the broader context of primary care.
This year the Task Force is joining forces with the WHO Department of Health Products Policy and Standards Department, with the Awards scheme being expanded to recognize work in assistive technology.
The purpose of the awards
Awards that recognize outstanding commitment and action to: (i) prevent and control NCDs; and (ii) promote and accelerate equitable access to assistive technology will be made in three categories:
- Ministries of health and government health agencies.
- Ministries and government agencies outside health.
- Non-governmental organizations, academia and foundations.
What we are looking for
Nominees should demonstrate an outstanding contribution to proven results for achieving health-related SDGs in the areas of: (i) multisectoral action in the prevention and control of NCDs, mental health or other NCD-related SDGs; (ii) promoting and accelerating people-centred, equitable access to assistive technology through system strengthening approaches including action on assistive technology policy, products, provision or personnel.
The nomination should describe how the institution, agency or organization being nominated has demonstrated the ability to:
- Create new and innovative approaches and activities.
- Lead the agenda and work with partners.
- Mobilize resources, knowledge and expertise.
- Meet challenges and overcome significant obstacles.
- Act as an exemplar to others.
We encourage nominations that highlight action that promote equity and reach marginalized communities.
Exclusions
- Nominations cannot come from an individual working in the institution being nominated or a board member of the institution being nominated.
- For awards related to NCDs, recipients of an Award within the last three years will not be considered for nomination.
- Nominations for individuals are not permissible.
How to submit a nomination
The nomination form can be accessed here and should be completed in English. Once you have completed the form, please send it to unncdtaskforce@who.int along with the WHO standard form for declaration of interests.
Information required
- The name and address of the institution, agency or organization being nominated.
- The name and email address of a focal point in the institution, agency or organization that is being nominated.
- The name and email address of the nominator along with the organization the nominator is working for as well as the relationship to the institution, agency or organization that is being nominated.
- Reasons for the nomination. It is important that outcomes are fully described. Links to relevant publication(s)/media overage on the internet are encouraged to enhance the information available to the selection committee (maximum 4500 characters).
- For non-governmental organizations, academia and foundations the nominator must complete the WHO standard form for declaration of interests (please note this is standard WHO DOI form and was not made specifically for the award nomination. The organization being nominated must complete the arms and tobacco disclosure statement. Both forms must be submitted to unncdtaskforce@who.int.

How the winners are selected
Selection Committee
Winners will be selected by a panel that consists of the Secretariat and members of the United Nations Inter-Agency Task Force on the Prevention and Control of Non-communicable Diseases and representatives from the WHO Department of Health Products Policy and Standards Department.

Awards will be announced in the latter half of 2024.
