Mamka Anyona

Policy and Strategy Lead, Health4Life Fund

Biography

Mamka is the Policy and Strategy Lead for the UN Health4Life Fund.  

Mamka is a Kenyan national  with more than a decade of experience working on global health in government, academia, philanthropy, and international organizations. Prior to joining the UN Health4Life Fund,  

Mamka supported the establishment of UNICEF’s programming for the prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases and led the Open Society Foundations’ work on innovative financing for global health. Mamka has also consulted for the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, amongst other international organizations.  

Although Mamka’s career has focused on policy, programming, and advocacy to address the growing global burden of noncommunicable diseases, she also conducts research and writes about the dynamics of global health governance and their implications on health outcomes and equity. She has also been a notable voice in the growing movement to decolonize global health. 

Mamka has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and has authored opinion pieces on leading publications such as Devex, Al Jazeera, The Guardian and African Arguments.  

She sits on the governing board of the Lwala Community Alliance and formerly represented Open Society Foundations on the board of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria.  

Mamka trained and practised as a clinician in Kenya. She also has a master’s degree from the University of Copenhagen, and a Doctor of Public Health degree from Harvard University. 



Nick Banatvala

Head of Secretariat

Biography

Nick is the head of the Task Force Secretariat.  

Previously, Nick was Head of Global Affairs at the Department of Health in England where he led the development and implementation of the UK Government's first-ever global health strategy. Before that, he headed up the UK Department for International Development’s work on global health partnership and scaling up health services. Prior to this, Nick led DFID’s health and education programming to Pakistan, Afghanistan and the Middle East. Nick has experience of the non-governmental sector, having worked with the UK aid agency Merlin on a number of humanitarian and development programmes.  

Nick trained in paediatrics and infectious diseases before doing public health and epidemiologic research in the East End of London and at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. Nick has held senior posts in UK public health, where his portfolios included cardiovascular disease, diabetes, breast and cervical cancer screening, and clinical governance. Nick has sat on government, non-government and academic boards, as well as national and international committees. He has undertaken consultancies for a number of agencies including the World Bank.  

Nick holds a honorary chair at the University of Manchester, a senior lectureship at Imperial College, London and is a senior visiting fellow at the University of Cambridge. In addition to being the lead author of a number of WHO and UK government publications, Nick has published widely in a range of peer-reviewed journals. Nick is co-editor of Noncommunciable Diseases: A Compendium, published in 2023.

Scott Chiossi

Technical Officer

Biography

Scott is a Technical Officer working as part of the Task Force Secretariat. He coordinates and supports a number of the Task Force’s working groups, and works on the Joint Programme on Catalyzing country action for NCDs and mental health.  

Prior to working with WHO, Scott was a research analyst at Chatham House in London working on health security and One Health projects. In this role, he contributed to the Accelerating Access to Diagnostics Project, lead One Health Outbreak Response capacity building activities, and supported policy work related to One Health poultry production systems in Asia.  

Scott also worked for the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control on emergency preparedness and epidemic intelligence. During his time at ECDC he participated in COVID-19 rapid risk assessments, reviewed emergency preparedness assessment tools, and conducted threat detection through event and indicator-based surveillance.   

Scott has an Erasmus Mundus MSc in Infectious Diseases and One Health and a BSc in Public and Global Health from Erasmus University Rotterdam. 

 

 

 



Ilaria Corazza

LEAD, COUNTRY SUPPORT AND RESEARCH

Biography

Ilaria works as part of the Task Force Secretariat by contributing to the development of new global and national investment cases methodologies for digital health, health taxes, assistive technologies and access to medicines, as well as to the conduction of investment cases on NCDs, mental health, road safety, physical activity, and tobacco cessation at country level.  

Over the past few years, Ilaria gained experience in research, project management and teaching, working as a research assistant and post-doc research fellow at the Management and Healthcare Laboratory of the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa, Italy, and as an assistant professor at the Interdisciplinary Research Centre “Health Science” of the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies. 

In 2021, Ilaria received her PhD in Management of Innovation, Sustainability and Healthcare (curriculum Healthcare) from the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies. Ilaria holds a master in Global Health from the University of Milan, a joint master’s degree in Economics from the University of Pisa, Italy, and the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies, and a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Management from the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, Italy. 



Alexey Kulikov

HEAD OF PARTNERSHIPS AND OPERATIONS, DEPUTY HEAD OF SECRETARIAT

Biography

Alexey Kulikov is Head of Partnerships and Operations, Deputy Head of the Task Force Secretariat. 

Previously, Alexey worked in the WHO Office to the United Nations in New York where he was part of the team that led preparations, and the successful outcome, of  the second high level meeting on NCDs in 2014. 

Before that, Alexey was a health attaché and European coordinator in Geneva when he was instrumental in shaping  the global health architecture for NCDs and mental health, including the negotiations that led to the 2011 United Nations political declaration on NCDs and the United Nations Economic and Social Council resolution that created the Task Force.  

Prior to this, Alexey worked in the Department of International Cooperation in the Russian Ministry of Health.  

Alexey qualified in medicine before training in public health administration. Alexey holds an MPH from Liverpool University which provide him with the opportunity to explore the role of digital technologies in public health. Alexey has a PhD in public health, which he received from State Medical University for research on multilingualism across the United Nations system.  

Alexey also has a diploma in business administration and financial management from the National Academy of Economy. Alexey has worked in  the private sector, including in the pharmaceutical industry. 

Alexey has published widely in peer-reviewed journals and is the lead author of a number of country-specific NCD and mental health investment cases.  



Alexandra Ladak

TEAM ASSISTANT AND COMMUNICATIONS LEAD

Biography

Alexandra (Sasha) is assistant to the Task Force Secretariat. 

Alexandra has a Bachelor's degree in International Governance and a Master's degree in International Marketing. In 2011, she moved from Russia to Geneva, where she worked in the private sector, gaining extensive experience in the areas of real estate and finance.  

In 2021, Alexandra joined WHO as part of the Programme on Health and Migration and learned internal processes within organization as well as publishing. 

Alexandra's passion for public health and her dedication to advance in her career in international organization led her to join the Taskforce in March 2023. Her expertise in the private sector and at WHO is an asset for the Task Force Secretariat. 



Linda Merieau

Lead, Partnerships and Resource Mobilization, HEALTH4LIFE FUND

Biography

Linda is Lead, Partnerships and Resource Mobilization for Health4Life Fund.  

Linda’s has focused on partnership development and corporate fundraising during a 30-year career that has spanned the private sector, international organizations, non-profits and the United Nations.  

Linda holds undergraduate degrees in both international relations and French studies from Clark University, Worcester, Massachusetts. Having received a post-graduate qualification from the University of Cambridge on cross-sector partnerships, Linda has published several articles on the topic of United Nations and business partnerships in the Journal of Corporate Citizenship. 

Linda pursued much of her career in Geneva, notably founding the World Economic Forum’s highly successful corporate partnership program. She also led the global advocacy and communications campaign for WHO’s World Health Day 2001 on mental health which brought about significant changes in attitudes toward mental health, enhanced country legislation, and increased mental health funding in several countries. Subsequently, she laid the foundations and implemented her strategic vision for UNHCR’s world-wide corporate partnership work and formed the Agency’s Council of Business Leaders.  

After relocating to the United Arab Emirates, Linda has worked for several civil society organizations and set up the Water Alliance, a non-profit entity in Dubai dedicated to educating youth on the value of water. Linda was a founding member of the first Middle East chapter of Soroptimist International.  

Linda enjoys connecting people through innovative and impactful partnerships that deliver change.  

Linda is currently living in Dubai.  

Neneh Sallah

LEAD, DIGITAL HEALTH AND INNOVATION

Biography

Neneh leads the coordination of the investment case for digital health to support action on NCDs and mental health. 

Neneh is a medical research scientist with a PhD in genomic epidemiology and population health from the University of Cambridge. Neneh has worked in both academic and pharmaceutical sectors. She is a visiting lecturer at London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and has held research and lectureship positions in genomics and health data science at GSK, University College London, the Wellcome Sanger Institute, and the Medical Research Council Unit The Gambia.  

Neneh has led research and health informatics capacity development activities in Africa and south-east Asia. Her work is published in in a range of peer-reviewed academic journals and can be accessed here

Neneh is a Lindau Nobel Laureate alumni and a McKinsey & Company Next Generation Women Leader.
